Plea for return of war medals

Kapi-Mana News - - NEWS -

War medals have been stolen from a firedamaged house in Rewa Tce, Tawa.

The house’s owner, who did not want to be named, said she accidentally left a small box behind as she and her husband were recovering items the day after a large fire at 4b Rewa Tce.

On either April 14 or 15, someone went into the house and took the box, which contained three medals.

One was her husband’s, for military service, and two were given to her grandfather by the governments of Greece and Bulgaria for his work with the Red Cross during World War I.

Both were crosses – one was blue and white, the other was white with a red centre.

The woman fruitlessly searched bushes near the house, hoping they had been discarded by whoever took the box.

‘‘They are of no significance to anyone but us and not worth anything,’’ she said.

‘‘It would be great if they could be returned, no questions asked.’’

She said the easiest way to return them is to the letterbox at 4b Rewa Tce.
