Push to lift health

One New Zealand man dies of a potentially avoidable illness every three hours.

Coupled with the fact that death rate for Maori men is double that of non-Maori, and there’s every reason why a group of Maori and Pacific men in Porirua want to help change the statistics.

The stage is being set for the first Porirua Men United Health Challenge.

The initiative will kick off Men’s Health Week from June 9 till 15.

The challenge is open to men and community groups within Porirua. It is driven by a collective in Porirua, including HeHa Porirua ( Healthy Eating Healthy Action), The Cancer Society, Get The Tools, Porirua City Council, Compass Health, Maraeroa Marae Health Clinic, OraToa and Capital & Coast District Health Board.

Part of the challenge is to encourage fathers and sons to have fun together, as they get fit and healthy.
