Porirua Historical Association

Porirua Historical Association does not host monthly meetings, as it did previously, president Tony Cross says.

It prefers to hold seminars regularly on historical topics, such as the upcoming talk on the 1913 strike in Wellington.

‘‘ We’re more focused on doing something like that, having keynote speakers, more so than what the association used to do,’’ he said.

‘‘We’d always love to have more members [there is a nucleus of 30] and create more interest around the history that we have in Porirua and around the region.’’

The group worked with the Historic Places Trust and other similar organisations on projects, Cross said.

The seminar on the 1913 strike will be in the Helen Smith Room at Pataka on July 6, at 3.30pm.
