HAVE YOUR SAY ON LOCAL ALCOHOL POLICY
What restrictions should be put on the sale of alcohol in Porirua City? We’d love to hear your views on the draft Local Alcohol Policy (LAP), which will tighten up when and where alcohol can be sold in our city. If the draft LAP is adopted as it is, the following major changes will occur: Supermarkets and groceries outside the city centre and all other off licences will have to stop selling alcohol by 9pm (cur- rently 11pm). City centre supermarkets and groceries could still sell till 11 pm. All on-licences across the city will have to stop trading by 1am (currently 4am). When considering a new licence application, the District Licensing Committee will be required to take into account whether there is a school nearby and work to avoid any adverse impacts. The Council has worked with police, the Medical Of cer of Health and Liquor Licensing Inspectors, as well as considering public feedback, to prepare this draft policy for further community consultation. Submissions are being received from June 9 to July 25 and hearings are set down for August 13 – 15. You can pick up a copy of the draft LAP, including a submission form, at city libraries and the Council Administration Building, or go online at www.pcc.govt.nz.
