Rope lad­ders for sh and new tracks for walk­ers are among the new im­prove­ments in Botham­ley Park. The park dubbed Porirua’s “Green Heart” runs from Cham­pion St in Ranui to War­spite Ave in Wai­tan­girua and is un­der­go­ing an ex­ten­sive seven-year, $800,000 up­grade. The lat­est im­prove­ments have in­cluded: Fish pas­sage baf es have been placed in cul­verts un­der the park’s con­crete bridges. The rub­ber baf es give sh rest­ing spots when swim­ming up against the fast ow­ing wa­ter. Fish rope has been placed through the cul­verts and up the sh lad­der at the bot­tom end of Can­nons Creek Park to help climb­ing sh nav­i­gate up­stream. About 14 na­tive sh are found in Kenepuru Stream. Up­grade of the main track up­stream from the lower Cham­pion St en­trance to the Can­nons Creek park en­trance A group of vol­un­teers are work­ing with Coun­cil on plant­ing and pest erad­i­ca­tion pro­grammes through the park.
