Porirua left out in cold

Kapi-Mana News - - NEWS -

A major player in Porirua’s shopping district is concerned Transmission Gully will draw shoppers away from the heart of the city.

North City Shopping Centre owners told Porirua City Council at a meeting last week that the planned expressway risked cutting off easy access to Porirua.

‘‘ Our concern is that it provides a fast corridor to the north and has potential to divert the vehicles of people who currently come to Porirua’s CBD to conduct their business and shop for personal needs,’’ the owner of Kiwi Income Property Trust said in a submission.

Centre manager Andrew Heaphy said the owners were not against Transmission Gully, but just wanted the council to advocate for connections to the city.

Porirua mayor Nick Leggett said the concern was valid and well-timed, and the council was keeping a close eye on the issue.
