The Tawa Orchestra will be playing their first concert of the year at the Tawa College Hall on Sunday, June 8.

It will also be the first concert under the baton of up-and-coming conductor and pianist Andrew Atkins, who is completing an honours music degree at Victoria University.

The programme is strongly classical and the pieces by Mozart, Wieniawski and Tchaikovsky are lyrical, romantic and at times fiery. ‘‘ Something for everyone’’, was Atkins’ summation.

Violin Concerto No 2, written by Polish violin virtuoso Henri Wieniawski, is an example of the romantic concerto genre.

The guest violinist for this piece is Laura Barton, another school of music student at Victoria University.

Admission is by koha and open to all. The concert starts at 2pm.
