Getting super-cold in the name of charity
Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s superheroes preparing for the Plimmerton Midwinter Dip.
Co-organiser Megan Krishnan said the dip, in its 18th year, had become one of the region’s most anticipated events.
‘‘It’s a tried and true formula really. We get crazy people who want to go into the water in the middle of winter,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s a fantastic community event that people love.’’
Last year 120 people took the plunge and nearly $10,000 was raised for Plimmerton Kindergarten.
This year the money raised will go towards completing the kindergarten’s outdoor area.
‘‘This will tip us over the edge to get it done,’’ Krishnan said.
There will be prizes for the best- dressed as well as spot prizes.
For those who don’t fancy Wellington’s chilly seas, there will plenty of activities on shore, including raffles, cakes, hot food and drinks.
