Mother of four found shoplifting twice

Kapi-Mana News - - COURT -

A Cannons Creek mother of four young children was caught stealing meat and a generator in Porirua.

Moana Bernadette Ringatau Manual, 33, appeared in Porirua District Court last week and pleaded guilty to two charges of shoplifting.

Police prosecutor Paul Macky said that on Friday, February 28, Manual was at New World Porirua.

He said she put five packets of frozen meat in her bag and continued shopping for other items. At the checkout she paid for the items, but not the meat, worth $51.98.

Macky said security stopped Manual as she was leaving the store.

A few weeks earlier, on February 15, Manual was caught stealing a Blackridge generator from Super Cheap Auto in Porirua.

Judge John Walker convicted Manual and sentenced her to six months community detention. He did not order any reparations. ‘‘It would be an empty order and the victims would be unlikely to get anything from you,’’ he said.
