Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION -

Wellington Repertory is presenting the first full- scale New Zealand production of Broadway hit The Addams Family from June 24 till July 5.

It’s an ambitious production with a cast of 20 musical theatre performers, five of whom are from the Porirua area – Neil Brewer, as Uncle Fester (back on stage after three years off with arthritic knees), Rob Ormsby as Gomez; Neil Rusling as Mal; Kirsty Justice as Alice (Mal’s wife); and Jodie Mahan, in the chorus of ancestors.

The show is based on the characters from Charles Addams’ cartoon strips from the New York Times and features an original story that is every father’s nightmare.

Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met.

If that’s not upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother.

Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia.

Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s boyfriend and his parents.

The Addams Family, Gryphon Theatre, Ghuznee St, Wellington, June 24 till July 5, (excluding June 30). To book, email bookings@wellingtonrepertory.org.nz, or phone 479 3393. Tickets $25 waged, $20 unwaged, $18 for pre-paid groups of 10 or more.
