The children at Waitangirua Kindergarten have big hearts.

So big that they won the Heart Foundation’s Wear Red for Healthy Hearts competition for their region. The Heart Foundation’s mascot, Hearty, visited the kindergarten last Wednesday to present the children with their award.

As part of the competition, the children and teachers dressed up in red, had a healthy morning tea and took part in a tug of war, red face painting and lots of physical activity.

The Wear Red for Healthy Hearts competition is an annual event that coincides with the Heart Foundation’s February Heart Week appeal.

The Heart Foundation aims to stop New Zealanders dying prematurely from heart disease. It focuses on research, promoting healthy lifestyles and advancing cardiac care.
