Tawa hold on for win

Tawa knocked out fel­low Cen­tral League side Up­per Hutt to reach the fourth round of foot­ball’s Chatham Cup on Satur­day.

They were 1-0 up af­ter just five min­utes at Red­wood Park when Mike Ra­maek­ers tapped in. Life got tough for Tawa af­ter Andrew Wild was sent off af­ter 41 min­utes for a studs-up chal­lenge, and Up­per Hutt got back into the game.

Up­per Hutt striker Luis Cor­rales cre­ated some good chances in the sec­ond half, but Tawa cus­to­dian Lance Ra­maek­ers was on top of his game and en­sured his side held their lead un­til the fi­nal whis­tle.

The draw for the fourth round will be made this week.

Porirua Vik­ings moved to third in the Welling­ton club rugby league’s standings af­ter a com­pre­hen­sive 48-12 win over neigh­bours St Ge­orge un­der lights at Porirua Park on Fri­day.

The nine-try de­mo­li­tion in­cluded a hat-trick to full­back Isireli Baleitavuki.

Norths 1 won the top-of-the-ta­ble clash with KBJ 1 in Kapi Mana pre­mier net­ball on Satur­day. It went down to the wire be­fore Norths pre­vailed 41-39.

In other games, Rockz 1 beat KBJ 2 59-51, Aotea Red thrashed Pare­mata-Plim­mer­ton 62-30 and Tawa Red over­came Kahu­rangi 50-37.
