Tawa hold on for win
Tawa knocked out fellow Central League side Upper Hutt to reach the fourth round of football’s Chatham Cup on Saturday.
They were 1-0 up after just five minutes at Redwood Park when Mike Ramaekers tapped in. Life got tough for Tawa after Andrew Wild was sent off after 41 minutes for a studs-up challenge, and Upper Hutt got back into the game.
Upper Hutt striker Luis Corrales created some good chances in the second half, but Tawa custodian Lance Ramaekers was on top of his game and ensured his side held their lead until the final whistle.
The draw for the fourth round will be made this week.
Porirua Vikings moved to third in the Wellington club rugby league’s standings after a comprehensive 48-12 win over neighbours St George under lights at Porirua Park on Friday.
