It’s time to learn to Swim

The Council’s Dash Swim School is taking enrolments now for Term 3 – and at just $100 for 10 lessons it is considered the best-priced learn to swim provider in Porirua. All classes are taken by fully-quali ed AUSTSWIM instructors, in a dedicated learn-to-swim facility. Over nine weeks, children learn vital swim-to-survive skills that could one day save their life. The course includes a dedicated water safety week, where children experience real-life situations they could nd themselves in when around water, and learn how to cope with them safely. Staff aim to simulate real-life situations in a variety of ways such as using high-pressure hoses to simulate strong currents in the water, big buckets to show what it’s like to sit in a sinking boat, and how to negotiate a slippery river bank built from tarpaulins and in atables.

“We want the kids to understand what it feels like to actually be caught in a rip, or how to behave if they fall into a river, but we do it in a safe environment,” says Dash Swim School Co-ordinator Phil Waggott. Call Dash Swim School on (04) 237 1518 or email us at info@dashswim
