Mystery monkey man

Every Thursday the children of Whitby’s ABC childcare centre get up to monkey business. At 11.30am they put on masks, crowd out on to the deck and shout for the monkey man.

They wait eagerly for the rubbish truck, and when it comes they are not disappointed.

Centre manager Kerri Davies said one of the rubbish collectors started wearing a monkey mask about a month ago.

‘‘He has even gone as far as dancing outside our centre with his mask on,’’ Davies said. ‘‘Our children absolutely love it.’’

The visit has become the highlight of the children’s day.

‘‘Talking about the monkey man has been non-stop. It has become a tradition our children look forward to all week.’’

But there is a mystery. Despite the buzz, no-one knows who the man behind the mask is.
