Fine goes to stream project

Porirua City Coun­cil will pay $ 39,375 to the Ngati Toa Taka­puwahia Stream restora­tion project af­ter a sewage over­flow into the sea south of Ti­tahi Bay af­ter heavy rain last Oc­to­ber.

The spill was caused by a bro­ken sewer near Porirua Stream and a blocked grate at the waste­water treat­ment plant in Ti­tahi Bay.

The Welling­ton District Court fined the Porirua coun­cil over the in­ci­dent, which oc­curred in Porirua District Coun­cil’s Waste Wa­ter Treat­ment.
