In defence of Gary Simpson

Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION -

Some responses to your story on Porirua City Council salaries have been quite predictable.

A fact you haven’t yet run though is that the chief executive’s latest salary is still $10,000 less than his predecessor, Roger Blakeley, was receiving when he left the council four years ago. And in return he kept the city’s transmission in ‘‘Park’’ for almost a decade.

Few would disagree that reducing costs to ratepayers must be a priority.

But we must also recognise value for money.
