If you can’t be the first baby of the new year, the first baby of Parents Centre Week is a pretty good alternative.

Waitangirua mother Shayla Osborne gave birth to Phoenix at 5.45am on Monday, June 23, making him the first baby born at Kenepuru Maternity Unit during Parents Centre Week.

Mana Parents Centre presented the family with a gift basket full of baby goodies from New World Porirua, a supply of Whittaker’s chocolate and a Mana Parents Centre goodie bag.

Kenepuru Maternity Unit offers a top resource for parents, with two birthing rooms, water- birth facilities and six postnatal beds in single rooms with ensuites.

Mothers who have given birth at Wellington Hospital can transfer to Kenepuru when space permits, while they adjust to motherhood and recover from labour and birth.

Lucky first: Shayla Osborne, her Aunty and new baby Phoenix.
