Muay Thai feast promised

Porirua kickboxers will be front and centre at Honour 6 on Saturday.

The Muay Thai kickboxing event, which takes place at Te Rauparaha Arena, will feature 11 fights.

Top billing goes to local favourite Ra Redden, who will step into the ring against the experienced Pumipi Ngaronoa in a five-round fight with full Thai rules.

Promoter Kevin Dick said aside from Redden’s recent match-up with Porirua’s Sone Vannathy in the King in the Ring, this would be his most difficult fight.

‘‘Pumipi is a seasoned pro and this is going to be a big test for Ra,’’ Dick said.

‘‘We’ve been wanting to get these guys together for a while, but it’s never happened. Now we’ve got it.’’

Porirua hopefuls on the undercard are Adam Manisy, who will be fighting for the New Zealand welterweight belt, Joe Kelly and Gene Murray.

Dick said the lineup was the best he had had and included two women’s title bouts.

‘‘We’ve got New Zealand’s best out there in some quality matchups.

‘‘It’s taken a lot of work to find time when these guys are available, so what we’ve ended up with is a promoter’s dream.’’

Dick said he was hoping for 800 spectators at the Arena.

Porirua punchers: From left, Joe Kelly, Adam Manisy, Ra Redden, Gerard Roach and Gene Murray will be flying the flag for Porirua at Honour 6.
