Thief nabbed after blood test
A Tawa thief’’s blood led to him being caught after he broke into a woman’s car and stole her handbag.
Stuart Campbell, 44, pleaded guilty when he appeared in Porirua District Court last week charged with theft from a car.
Police prosecutor Lisa Thomson said that about 12.45pm on April 12, the victim left her handbag covered with a jacket in her car at Spicer Park in Tawa. When she returned to the vehicle 15 minutes later she saw the passenger window had been broken and her handbag was gone.
Thompson said blood found in the victim’s car led to Campbell being identified.
His lawyer, Philippa Sullivan, said Campbell regretted his actions.
‘‘ He had been released from prison. He’s not been on the benefit and was not able to help himself,’’ she said.
Judge John Walker convicted Campbell and sentenced him to 80 hours’ community work and $347.98 in reparation.
