Win opera seats for two
Kapi-Mana News has a pair of gold reserve tickets to give away to the upcoming matinee performance of Verdi’s La Traviata.
Glamour, the expectations of society, true love and honour are among the themes explored in New Zealand Opera’s sparkling new production of La Traviata, among the world’s favourite operas.
Characters fall from their mirror-framed world, set against a spectacular 30m- wide swathe of camellias across the St James Theatre centre stage.
Acclaimed soprano Lorina Gore sings the lead role of the courtesan Violetta.
‘‘The camellias she wears, red or white, reflect the cycle of her own life, blood and sex, loss and life,’’ director Kate Cherry, who also created the applauded production of Madame Butterfly last year, said. The opera’s story that inspired Moulin Rouge remains intensely moving, richly costumed and is accompanied by Orchestra Wellington with the Chapman Tripp Opera Chorus. La Traviata runs from July 11 to 19. To win a double pass to the matinee performance on July 13 at 2.30pm, email editor@kmananews. co.nz, with your daytime contact details, before 4pm Thursday, July 10. Put ‘‘Opera’’ in the message line.
