Not even politi­cians are im­mune to the nom­i­na­tions of the lat­est so­cial me­dia faze, The Ice Chal­lenge.

Mana MP Kris Faafoi had buck­ets of icy cold wa­ter poured over him last Fri­day as part of the vi­ral so­cial me­dia chal­lenge.

In The Ice Chal­lenge, people have be­tween up to 48 hours to com­plete the task, which in­volves hav­ing buck­ets of ice tipped over them, nom­i­nat­ing oth­ers to do it, and then donat­ing $10 to cancer re­search.

If the chal­lenge is not com­pleted, the par­tic­i­pant do­nates $100.

Ice has been fly­ing off the shelves of su­per­mar­kets and gas sta­tions around Porirua as people pre­pare for their mid­win­ter freeze.
