Ris­ing rates a nightmare

With re­gard to the ris­ing rates cri­sis, I would like to say that we pay very high rates al­ready – Porirua City has the high­est rates in the Welling­ton re­gion.

That’s what we get for elect­ing the same mayor again and again. Thanks Nick Leggett for show­ing us why we made a great mis­take in choos­ing you again.

If we go for a su­per-city plan per­haps our rates will match those of the rest of the Welling­ton area, which, by the way, is of­ten less that half of what we pay.

I to­tally agree with the ed­i­to­rial (July 1) that the coun­cil is spend­ing with­out a thought to the res­i­dents of Porirua.

I think the coun­cil is mak­ing life harder for its res­i­dents. I see no rea­son why we should fund coun­cil ad­ven­tures.

Mr Leggett, let’s for­get that our fam­i­lies do not have enough to eat and keep them warm in win­ter. Still, just as long as the coun­cil has enough in its pocket.

Porirua is fast mov­ing to­wards be­ing the city where many people live be­low poverty line.
