Racism in Porirua

A cou­ple of weeks back I was walk­ing through Porirua Col­lege in the af­ter­noon and hap­pened to walk past a group of Pa­cific Is­land/Maori boys play­ing bas­ket­ball.

For no rea­son at all, one of them yelled out a racial term at the In­di­ans.

As a for­mer Porirua Col­lege stu­dent I was ashamed to hear this racism from a stu­dent of my old col­lege.

I never ex­pe­ri­enced it dur­ing my time there.

Oddly enough, there was an­other in­ci­dent in­volv­ing racism against In­di­ans last Novem­ber at Aotea la­goon.

On that oc­ca­sion, it came from a mem­ber of a fit­ness group that hold reg­u­lar work­outs there.

While walk­ing past, a mem­ber yelled out a racial term.
