Tawa College is in the middle of a mystery.
It’s not a murder mystery, an identity mystery or a missing school book mystery, but rather it’s this year’s major production at the college titled Mystery Play.
Head of drama Nick Brown did not want to give away too much, but said the play was a modern take on medieval, biblical theatre.
‘‘It starts off with a group of people who don’t really know where they are going,’’ Brown said.
‘‘They have to relearn everything about what it means to be human.’’
Mystery Play was created and performed by theatre students at Victoria University.
Tawa College will be the first to perform it outside of the university.
‘‘ It’s fresh New theatre.’’
Brown said some of the original jokes had to be toned down to suit a school audience, but it had stayed very loyal to the original.
Adding to the excitement, the stage layout for the play will be traverse – the audience will be predominantly on two sides of the stage, facing each other.
‘‘It hasn’t been done at the college for a while, so it will be great.’’
