Norths into Hardham final
Northern United will contest their second successive Hardham Cup final after overcoming Avalon 34-20 on Saturday.
They will take on Poneke in Sunday’s final, which will be the curtain-raiser to the Jubilee Cup final.
Norths took a decisive 24-3 into the latter stages of the first half over Avalon at Porirua Park, with three tries.
Avalon preyed on Norths’ illdiscipline and closed the gap to 24-10 just before halftime when they were awarded a penalty try.
Avalon first five- eighth Cameron Cross closed the margin to 24-13 with a penalty, before Norths’ wing Kolio Feauanti scored a decisive try to push the score out to 29-13.
Avalon scored again to close the margin to 29-20 but No 8 Anthony Masina crossed for his second 5- pointer of the match off a 5-metre scrum, sealing victory.
In the women’s premier grade, meanwhile, Wainuiomata tipped over Norths 17-15, while Ories thrashed Tawa 131-0.
In Central League football on Sunday, Western Suburbs comfortably won the local derby, beating Tawa 3- 0 at Redwood Park.
A brace to Elliot Collier and one from Billy Scott proved to be more than enough for Wests as Tawa remain just two points ahead of bottom-placed Upper Hutt City in the battle for survival.
In Kapi Mana premier netball, KBJ 1 thrashed Rockz 1 71-30, Te Tai Timu 1 beat Norths 2 73-55, Aotea College defeated Tawa College 57- 37 and Norths 1 beat Kahurangi by default.
