First season hits high note

- By KRIS DANDO

Porirua City Co-Op refuse to act their age.

The Masters football side were promoted to division 3 on their first attempt after only forming at the beginning of this season.

The team, named for their local watering hole in Whitby, played their home games at Adventure Park.

The opening game was a 9-0 win away to Petone and they stayed top of the division throughout the season.

The team’s top scorer was Lee Du Maurier, who netted 20 goals.

Player- manager Paul Rudkin said their favourite win was likely the 1-0 away win at Brooklyn Northern, with the goal coming in the final moments to Brian Scott.

‘‘I think our keys to success are probably down to the fact we’re all good mates on and off the field, half the team are coaches, and we’re so old we’ve been around forever.’’

The Porirua City AFC club are having a fun day at Adventure Park this Saturday, from 10am.
