Security guard deleted footage

Kapi-Mana News - - COURT/NEWS -

A Porirua security guard deleted CCTV footage to hide the fact he was stealing from a cash float.

Tagatanuu Ritchie Faaumu Siaifoi, 20, started work as a security guard at Mitre 10 Mega in December.

On May 13 a colleague noticed a cash float was missing from a safe and asked Faaumu Siaifoi to help locate it.

Faaumu Siaifoi had stolen 13 cash floats worth $200 each over two months and, worried that he would be caught, deleted CCTV footage of the area.

After store management attempted to view the footage, IT confirmed it had been deleted and discovered Faaumu Siaifoi was the last person logged on.

He told police he stole the money to buy food for his family.

Faaumu Siaifoi pleaded guilty to the theft when he appeared in Porirua District Court last Tuesday.

His lawyer, Sonia Thistoll, said he had lost his job and it had put a lot of stress on his relationship.

‘‘ The consequences of his offending are going to have a lifelong impact,’’ she said.

Judge Chris Tuohy convicted Faaumu Siaifoi and sentenced him to 160 hours’ community work.

He was ordered to pay $2600 in reparation.
