A committee has been formed to oversee the clean- up of Porirua Harbour.

The Te- Awarua- o- Porirua Harbour and Catchment Joint Committee will be made up of representatives from Porirua City Council, Ngati Toa, Wellington City Council and Wellington Regional Council.

It is chaired by Porirua City councillor Bronwyn Kropp and met for the first time two weeks ago.

Kropp said highlights to report in the last year regarding the harbour included upgrades to Porirua’s sewer and stormwater networks, especially the reticulation of Pauatahanui village.

Ngati Toa completed the first full fish survey of Porirua Harbour, and Guardians of Pauatahanui Inlet recently completed its three-yearly cockle survey of the Pauatahanui Inlet, she said.

‘‘The results of the latest cockle survey are the first real indication that the health of the Pauatahanui Inlet has steadily improved,’’ she said.
