Rais­ing money to help out with mo­bil­ity dogs

An­i­mates is team­ing up with Mo­bil­ity Dogs to raise funds, and a puppy, to as­sist at least one New Zealan­der liv­ing with a dis­abil­ity.

Un­til the end of Oc­to­ber, An­i­mates stores will col­lect do­na­tions from cus­tomers and aims to raise $50,000 to help the Mo­bil­ity As­sis­tance Dogs Trust train and raise at least one new mo­bil­ity dog.

Each dog costs about $ 45,000 to train.

Do­na­tions can also be made on­line.

Best Friend: Mike Wheeler with his mo­bil­ity dog, Friend, and Gov­er­nor Gen­eral, Sir Jerry Mateparae. Mike rep­re­sented the Mo­bil­ity Dogs Trust at the launch of Aus­tralia and New Zealand As­sis­tance Dogs. He is 12 years old and has mus­cu­lar dys­tro­phy. He has had Friend for four years.
