Top author’s important message
Noted author Fleur Beale will urge Porirua’s young adults to read and write more during a free public event organised by Porirua Public Library.
Young and not-so-young adults are invited to attend the evening of conversation with Beale on Thursday at 5.30pm in Pataka’s Helen Smith meeting room.
‘‘ It’s the first time we’ve organised such an event for young adults, and I’m excited we have an author of Fleur’s calibre to talk to them,’’ Porirua children’s librarian Bee Trudgeon said.
Beale is best known for her teenage classic I Am Not Esther and its new sequel I Am Rebecca.
She also wrote the Juno of Taris trilogy and the adult non-fiction book Sins of the Father.
The evening is the first in a series of events on the theme of the Freedom to Read, which Porirua Library will revisit during the annual ‘‘ banned books celebrations’’ in coming weeks.
Porirua teenagers can bring friends to the event. Refreshments will be served.
To book, RSVP to btrudgeon@ pcc.govt.nz.
Drawcard: Fleur Beale, who is speaking in Porirua on Thursday.
