The number of votes cast in the 2014 election, excluding special votes, was 2,367,152 and 77.04 per cent of those who were eligible turned out to vote. About 30 per cent of those who voted did so in advance. In 2011, the voter turnout was only 74.21 per cent, the lowest for more than two decades. In 2008, when National ended Labour’s nine years in Government, the voter turnout was 79.46 per cent.
