Karaoke for a cause
A karaoke competition will take place in Cannons Creek on October 8 in support of Mental Health Awareness Week.
The public competition is open to everyone and begins at 11am at Freedom House, 174 Bedford St.
The day of festivities, hosted by Te Waka Whaiora Trust, begins at 10am with a karakia.
Kai will be served at noon, before karaoke resumes at 1.15pm.
The afternoon will close with a kapa haka performance by Te Waka Trust and a karakia.
Co-organiser Dale Mackey said there was an open invitation to the public and local organisations to attend and enjoy dancing, singing and food.
The karaoke competition has become an annual event, but Mackey said there was a chance this could be the last time the event was held because of funding cuts.
