A member’s thoughts

Kapi-Mana News - - SPORT -

Long-time member Ron Cox, a man with many stories to tell, will take your bookings if you call Pauatahanui Golf Club.

‘‘This golf course opened in 1967,’’ he said.

‘‘About 15 waterside workers used to play at Judgeford, but decided they wanted their own course.

‘‘This section of land came up to lease. It wasn’t much more than a track, but they got a good deal.

‘‘It used to be that you would park your cars way down on the [main] road and walk through. Saturdays were spent cutting thistle and playing golf.

‘‘About 25 years ago the opportunity came up to buy the land and that was it. There’s been talk of 18 holes, but there’s not the room.’’

Cox said once the redesign work was carried out, members and regular green fee players would relax.

‘‘The designs look great and the feedback has been good.’’
