Adventure School will be celebrating its 25th birthday with an open day on Friday.

The Whitby school opened in 1988 as a satellite school to nearby Discovery, but numbers grew quickly.

Adventure School was officially opened by the Governor-General, Sir Paul Reeves, in November 1989.

Over the years classrooms have been added, along with a hall, playgrounds and library.

From 10.30am on Friday a tour of the school will be hosted by senior pupils, to see the children going about their normal day.

As well, there will also be a photo display in the school hall.

At 1.30pm a special assembly will be held, with performances including kapa haka, dancing and singing.

An afternoon tea will follow at 2.45pm.
