World darts star seeking ‘hidden talent’ in Porirua
World darts star Phil ‘‘The Power’’ Taylor is to showcase his skills at Porirua’s Te Rauparaha Arena in January.
Taylor, the world No 2, and world No 3 Adrian Lewis, both from England, will be Down Under as part of the DartsKing of Australasia Series.
The series’ six legs will be played in Invercargill, Porirua (January 15 and 16) and Sydney.
Lewis and Taylor will host a meet and greet dinner at the Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club on January 14.
The rest of the players in the series will be top Australian and New Zealand players, who must go through qualifying tournaments to reach the main event.
Taylor, who is a cult figure in his sport, said his trip to New Zealand and Australia would happen straight after the world championships in London.
‘‘We’ll be visiting places we have never been before and I’d love to unearth a hidden talent while I’m there,’’ he said.
‘‘Hopefully I’ll be visiting as world champion and I’ll be focused on bringing the DartsKing Australasia title back to England.’’
On target: Darts supremo Phil Taylor is heading for New Zealand.
