Pool water used to fight fire
Firefighters drained a nearby swimming pool to help fight a fire in Paremata on Saturday.
The Paremata house was destroyed by the fire, which broke out in the home in Kahu Rd about 5pm.
Firefighters worked hard to put out the blaze, which spread into scrub and threatened houses behind.
Rachelle Stoddart, who lives behind, said neighbours rushed to fight the fire with garden hoses.
Assistant Wellington area commander Dave Key said firefighters arrived at the scene to find minimal mains pressure to fight the fire.
But a nearby backyard had a 50,000- litre swimming pool, which was drained to battle the blaze.
The cause of the fire or whether it started in the home or bush behind is not yet known.
Strong winds pushed the flames near homes.
Nobody was injured and everyone out of the house when firefighters arrived.
Fire safety investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
