Housing funding switched
Natone Park School pupils will benefit from $20,000 worth of road safety projects approved by Porirua City Council last week.
Crossing points and pedestrian refuge stations in Waitangirua will increase safety for children.
The work is part of $120,000 of road safety projects approved for eastern Porirua.
The money was set aside for Housing New Zealand upgrades in the Castor Loop area, and has been deferred.
Porirua City Council allocated $1 million for the housing initiative in 2009.
Road safety works in eastern Porirua could be the likely beneficiary each year now, a report to councillors said.
Other Cannons Creek projects being considered include Bedford St ($ 25,000), Fantame St ($11,000), Gloucester St ($9000) and Castor Cres ($20,000).
Upgrades to footpaths, a crossing and a roundabout in Ranui will cost $29,000.
