Hous­ing fund­ing switched

Na­tone Park School pupils will ben­e­fit from $20,000 worth of road safety projects ap­proved by Porirua City Coun­cil last week.

Cross­ing points and pedes­trian refuge sta­tions in Wai­tan­girua will in­crease safety for chil­dren.

The work is part of $120,000 of road safety projects ap­proved for east­ern Porirua.

The money was set aside for Hous­ing New Zealand up­grades in the Cas­tor Loop area, and has been de­ferred.

Porirua City Coun­cil al­lo­cated $1 mil­lion for the hous­ing ini­tia­tive in 2009.

Road safety works in east­ern Porirua could be the likely ben­e­fi­ciary each year now, a re­port to coun­cil­lors said.

Other Can­nons Creek projects be­ing con­sid­ered in­clude Bed­ford St ($ 25,000), Fan­tame St ($11,000), Glouces­ter St ($9000) and Cas­tor Cres ($20,000).

Up­grades to foot­paths, a cross­ing and a round­about in Ranui will cost $29,000.
