TIME TO CUT RU­RAL SPEED LIM­ITS?

Speeds may be cut on some of Porirua’s ru­ral roads to bet­ter suit the en­vi­ron­ment – but rst we want to hear your views. The Coun­cil and the New Zealand Trans­port Agency are work­ing to­gether on pro­posed safety im­prove­ments to SH58/Hay­wards Hill and its con­nect­ing roads in the Pau­ata­hanui/Judge­ford area. The Trans­port Agency is con­sid­er­ing cut­ting speed lim­its on: SH58/Hay­wards Hill be­tween Pau­ata­hanui and SH2 from 100 to 80km/h, and Be­tween Post­gate Drive round­about and Pau­ata­hanui round­about to 70km/h. In re­sponse, the Coun­cil is look­ing to cut the speed limit from 100km/h to 70km/h on Bradey, Bel­mont, Flightys, Mur­phys, Mul­h­ern and Moon­shine roads. It’s also propos­ing to re­duce the speed limit on Coroglen Rise (off Air­lie Road) from 100 km/h to 60km/h. We’d like to hear your views on these pro­pos­als be­fore 22 Jan­uary 2015.
