Orchestra ends busy year
The Tawa Community Orchestra will be playing their last concert for the year on Sunday. The orchestra have had a a full and energetic year under the baton of young conductor Andrew Atkins.
He said the budding musicians could be proud of their efforts and nominated among the highlights playing a violin and piano concerto, combining with the Moreton Bay Orchestra on tour from Brisbane, and lending community assistance to the Virtuoso Strings Demonstration Concert with young string players from Canons Creek.
‘‘This last concert will stretch the orchestra further still,’’ he said.
‘‘They accompany guest soprano Esther Leefe, who is about to begin her honours degree at the New Zealand School of Music Wellington.’’
The Unrequited Love programme is an example of the Romantic era. It finishes with a light-hearted rendition of Strauss’s The Blue Danube Waltz.
Admission is by koha and open to all. Doors open at 1.45pm, with the concert starting at 2pm.
