Orches­tra ends busy year

The Tawa Com­mu­nity Orches­tra will be play­ing their last con­cert for the year on Sun­day. The orches­tra have had a a full and en­er­getic year under the ba­ton of young con­duc­tor An­drew Atkins.

He said the bud­ding mu­si­cians could be proud of their ef­forts and nom­i­nated among the high­lights play­ing a vi­olin and pi­ano con­certo, com­bin­ing with the More­ton Bay Orches­tra on tour from Bris­bane, and lend­ing com­mu­nity as­sis­tance to the Vir­tu­oso Strings Demon­stra­tion Con­cert with young string play­ers from Canons Creek.

‘‘This last con­cert will stretch the orches­tra fur­ther still,’’ he said.

‘‘They ac­com­pany guest so­prano Es­ther Leefe, who is about to be­gin her hon­ours de­gree at the New Zealand School of Mu­sic Welling­ton.’’

The Un­re­quited Love pro­gramme is an ex­am­ple of the Ro­man­tic era. It fin­ishes with a light-hearted ren­di­tion of Strauss’s The Blue Danube Waltz.

Ad­mis­sion is by koha and open to all. Doors open at 1.45pm, with the con­cert start­ing at 2pm.
