Pol­lard in run­ning for World Cup

Opener Michael Pol­lard con­tin­ued to push his case for World Cup se­lec­tion with three solid out­ings for Welling­ton in the na­tional Twenty20 cricket com­pe­ti­tion over the week­end.

The North City star bats­man made 37, 54 and 28 against Auck­land, Can­ter­bury and Cen­tral Dis­tricts re­spec­tively at West­pac Sta­dium. Each in­nings con­tained pow­er­ful hit­ting at more than a run-a-ball rate.

Against Can­ter­bury, the Fire­birds made a ex­cel­lent 178 then re­stricted Can­ter­bury to 153.

Pol­lard fol­lowed up his fine bat­ting dis­play with two catches and ef­fected two run outs.

Against Cen­tral Dis­tricts, chas­ing 111, Pol­lard’s 28 off 17 balls and 43-run open­ing stand with Michael Papps set the foun­da­tion for a com­fort­able win.
