Pollard in running for World Cup
Opener Michael Pollard continued to push his case for World Cup selection with three solid outings for Wellington in the national Twenty20 cricket competition over the weekend.
The North City star batsman made 37, 54 and 28 against Auckland, Canterbury and Central Districts respectively at Westpac Stadium. Each innings contained powerful hitting at more than a run-a-ball rate.
Against Canterbury, the Firebirds made a excellent 178 then restricted Canterbury to 153.
Pollard followed up his fine batting display with two catches and effected two run outs.
Against Central Districts, chasing 111, Pollard’s 28 off 17 balls and 43-run opening stand with Michael Papps set the foundation for a comfortable win.
