Student earns makeup award
Porirua student Zyanne Togiatama has been named Wellington’s top makeup student for 2014.
Togiatama, a beauty and hairdressing student at Whitireia Community Polytech’s Porirua campus, won the local area section of the 2014 Wendy Hill Cosmetics national student award for professional photographic bridal makeup.
She was one of nearly 200 beauty therapy, cosmetology and beauty assistant students who took part in the competition, which is run through New Zealand’s major beauty training institutions.
The competition is staged by New Zealand makeup house Wendy Hill Cosmetics, in association with industry educators, to assist in the support of student studies and the improvement of makeup skills in the beauty profession.
Tiffany Pule, general manager of Wendy Hill Cosmetics, said that the high standard of the entries showed the level of skill and understanding of the principles of makeup were continuing to improve in the tertiary training sector. ‘‘Zyanne created a very flattering, natural bridal makeup that suited her model well,’’ Pule said. ‘‘It showed she has real ability as a makeup artist.’’
