De­fib­ril­la­tor work­shop

ASB and St John have com­bined to in­stall au­to­mated ex­ter­nal de­fib­ril­la­tors in 170 branches around the coun­try for com­mu­ni­ties to use in the case of car­diac emer­gen­cies.

Last year 156 peo­ple in the Wellington re­gion had car­diac ar­rests. Ev­ery year more than 1000 New Zealan­ders suf­fer a heart at­tack out­side the hos­pi­tal en­vi­ron­ment, and the dif­fer­ence a de­fib­ril­la­tor can make to sur­vival rates is stag­ger­ing.

Free 60-minute work­shops are be­ing run in ASB branches en­abling New Zealan­ders to learn valu­able CPR skills and how to use the de­fib­ril­la­tors.

There is a work­shop at the ASB Porirua branch in the North City Shop­ping Cen­tre on Fri­day, Jan­uary 23, 9.15am till 10.15am.
