ASB and St John have combined to install automated external defibrillators in 170 branches around the country for communities to use in the case of cardiac emergencies.
Last year 156 people in the Wellington region had cardiac arrests. Every year more than 1000 New Zealanders suffer a heart attack outside the hospital environment, and the difference a defibrillator can make to survival rates is staggering.
Free 60-minute workshops are being run in ASB branches enabling New Zealanders to learn valuable CPR skills and how to use the defibrillators.
There is a workshop at the ASB Porirua branch in the North City Shopping Centre on Friday, January 23, 9.15am till 10.15am.
