Vol­un­teers wanted for war mu­si­cal

Au­di­tions are be­ing held on Satur­day for the mu­si­cal Voices From The Front, a mu­si­cal to com­mem­o­rate the cen­te­nary of the Gal­lipoli cam­paign.

Porirua Lit­tle The­atre is join­ing Porirua City Brass Band to pro­duce the show, which will be staged at Te Rau­paraha Arena over Anzac week­end.

Voices From the Front will fea­ture many well-known songs from the World War I era.

They in­clude I Won­der Who’s Kiss­ing Her Now and It’s A Long Way To Tip­per­ary.

The show was writ­ten by Amanda Stone and will be di­rected by John God­dard.

It is a trib­ute to the ex­tra­or­di­nary courage of those who gave their lives dur­ing New Zealand’s Gal­lipoli cam­paign.

Voices From

the Front

is a thought-pro­vok­ing tale of ca­ma­raderie, tragedy, hero­ism, heart­break and the cheeky hu­mour of the hum­ble New Zealand sol­dier.

It be­gins with the an­nounce­ment of war on the steps of Par­lia­ment, moves to train­ing in Egypt.

The ac­tion then moves to the trenches of Gal­lipoli and the fi­nal evac­u­a­tion.

The show has an en­sem­ble cast with a large cho­rus and plenty of character parts.

It will be an im­por­tant event in Porirua’s com­mem­o­ra­tions of the cen­te­nary of the Gal­lipoli cam­paign.
