Tawa Rotary Club held its annual Toot 4 Tucker collection on two nights at Christmas, and the streets of Tawa were full of fire trucks and collectors for the Tawa Foodbank.

Ken Pearson, incoming president of the Tawa Rotary Club, said it was the most successful collection yet.

‘‘ The people of Tawa were unbelievably generous. They donated over 4500 food items and $870 in cash,’’ he said.

He thanked the collectors, including Tawa Rotarians and other community groups, and particularly Tawa Volunteer Fire Service.

Major Keith Wray, minister at Tawa Salvation Army, said it was heart-warming to see so many families wanting to help neighbours at Christmas time.
