Bath treat for dogs and their owners

Paw-scratched baths and hair-clogged plugholes are in the past for Porirua dog owners.

New Plymouth businessman Craig McKenzie opened a K9000 Dogwash at the CareVets in Kenepuru Drive last week.

The dog wash, which is coin operated, costs $10 for 10 minutes and has a warm water shower hose and five wash settings: shampoo, flea shampoo, condition rinse, rinse and blow dry.

There will be no Marley & Me moments of chasing a soaking dog down the street, as a clip and non-slip mat make it easy to keep dogs in the tub.

‘‘The joy of this thing is you can come in and wash your dog and all the mess stays behind,’’ McKenzie said.

The inspiration for the business came after a bad experience McKenzie had washing his black labrador, Max, in a white bathroom. ‘‘I thought there had to be a better way.’’ McKenzie has similar units in New Plymouth and Whanganui.
