Whitby’s Discovery Kindergarten celebrates its 40th birthday on Saturday, March 15, and is inviting current and former children, staff and whanau to join in the fun.

A feature of the celebrations will be a photo wall and head teacher Stephanie Jac- obs is keen to hear from anyone who has stories and photos of the kindergarten, particularly in its early days.

Photos can be emailed to discovery@ wn-kinder or dropped off to be scanned.

Jacobs said it would be great to reconnect with children and teachers.

‘‘ Discovery Kindergarten has been a special part of the community since it opened just four years after the first house was built in Whitby,’’ Jacobs said.

‘‘We have had two generations of some families attend. One of our teachers was here as a child in 1979 and now her daughter is at Discovery.’’

The celebrations run from 1pm till 4pm and will include the presentation of a new carving, food and drinks to buy, music, games and a silent auction.

Call on 234 8186.
