Paper cutter comes to town

Kapi-Mana News - - NEWS -

Noted Taiwanese paper cutter Wang Chen-Wen will be demonstrating at Pataka on Saturday, in connection with the Imagine Asia exhibition that is on at Pataka.

Mr Wang, as he is known, is author of The Art of Traditional Lanterns, and is a renowned bird artist who uses lantern- making to promote environmental conservation and bird protection. He and his tal- ented wife, Tung Pi-Er, are also wellknown contemporary paper artists.

Paper cutting was originally practised by the noble class, because paper was a precious commodity.

Today red paper-cuts are chiefly decorative.
