Triathlon draws in community

Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION/NEWS -

Titahi Bay School welcomes all competitors to its triathlon, running for the seventh year on March 14.

Board of Trustees chairwoman, Shelley Cheyne, said the event helps promote fitness among the children and brings the community together.

‘‘We want our wider community to join us on the day to compete and to enjoy food, drinks and raffles and the stunning Titahi Bay scenery,’’ she said.

‘‘Over the years we have been holding the triathlon, the numbers of children riding to school and enjoying our amazing bike track has risen hugely.

‘‘Having an event in which they can compete against their friends or just enjoy completing the event is a great way to keep them active.’’

Preschoolers, open juniors (new entrants to year 3), open seniors (years 4-6) can compete over wellsupervised distances of 250 metres to 750 metres, including running, biking and swimming.

For $10 each, participants will receive a medal and certificate. Registration is on the day by 9.15am at the school. Eftpos will be available. Money raised from the event will go towards a cooking room at Titahi Bay School.

The postponement date will be March 28.
