One week to rule them all

Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION -

Parks Week will get under way with a Lord of the Rings event at Kaitoke this Saturday.

Held from March 7 to 15, Parks Week is an annual celebration of the vital role the green spaces play in enhancing the health of our communities and of our natural environment, said regional council events adviser Catherine Wylde.

‘‘We want to get people from across the region to visit and enjoy our fabulous range of parks available to them,’’ she said.

Events this year include dog walks, mountainbike events, garden and sunset tours, some- thing for everyone, Wylde said.

The regional council is kicking off the week this Saturday at 10.30am in Kaitoke Regional Park, where a replica of the Rivendell Archway from The Lord of the Rings trilogy is unveiled.

This family-friendly and fully accessible occasion will include guided walks with interactive Lord of the Rings characters, prizes for best dressed and morning tea, Wylde said.
