Gal­lipoli coinage

New Zealand’s first coloured coin, launched ear­lier this month to mark 100 years since the Gal­lipoli land­ings, is now avail­able for pre-or­der.

One mil­lion of the coins have been minted and will be avail­able in PostShops and Ki­wibank branches from March 23.

In­ter­est in the coins has been high and peo­ple who are con­cerned they may miss out are able to pre-or­der at nz­ an­za­c­coin.

Peo­ple can or­der ei­ther one 50 cent coin or one roll of 20 coins. The coins will be sold at face value.

The coin fea­tures a New Zealand and an Aus­tralian sol­dier stand­ing back to back, with their heads bowed in re­mem­brance.

The man­go­pare (ham­mer­head shark) pat­tern sym­bol­ises strength and de­ter­mi­na­tion, and the sil­ver fern re­flects New Zealand’s na­tional iden­tity.

To rep­re­sent New Zealand’s na­tional colours, the man­go­pare is coloured white on the coin, with the back­ground black.
